Our Calling

Our Calling

As I sit here and reflect on my week, one thing comes to my mind: In what ways did I make God smile this week? Did I smile at someone who was lonely in the hall? Did I help others who were struggling? Did I love others with my whole heart? As these thoughts came to mind, I started to think about what my calling on earth is. One way or another, something became known to me: God calls us to live a life of joy, purpose, and significance! One verse that relates is Psalm 139:14, "I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" and Psalm 143:6, "I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land"

These two verses go so well together because God made us perfectly in our mother's womb and created each and everyone of us different. We each have our own calling, and in order to live out our calling for him we must trust his plan. In Psalm 143:6 it says "my soul thirsts for you like a parched land." Just as a parched land thirsts for rain, we too thirst in the same way for God. When we become to caught up in the idols of this world, and instead place our identity in earthly things, we are left stretching out our hands to Him for a source of energy. Trends will always change, but God NEVER changes. Just as we are told in Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." !!! I think that is so awesome, because no matter what trends pass through the world, God remains the same: loving, all-powerful, providing, EXTRAORDINARY!

In order for us to live out our calling God has given us (a life of joy, purpose, and significance), we must stray away from the crowd and go our own way. While following the crowd will leave us astray, following HIM will lead us home. When we begin to look towards Jesus for our every decision, we will then be able to see ourselves as God sees us: Fearfully and wonderfully made.

If we continually remind ourselves that the trends of this world will not fulfill us, then we will become free from the weight holding us back and live with PURPOSE! When we live with purpose, we will constantly be filled with Gods everlasting JOY, which will create our SIGNIFICANCE in life on earth. Once we accomplish these three things, than we can truly live out God's calling for us.

Along the way we will face troubles, and things that will try and kick us off our path to fulfilling our calling. However, if we are on guard when these trials happen, we can look to God for direction and he will lead us back to him. I pray that each and everyone of you can begin to see yourself the way God sees you, and that you can work towards living a life of joy, purpose, and significance, so we can make God smile each and every day!

Prayer:

Dear Lord,

Thank you for always being right by my side, and for always helping me get back on track. Lord, without you I would be nothing. I do not deserve your love, yet you give it to us with no charge. This week help me to live out my calling in life, and work each and every day to glorify you. Please forgive me for all of my wrong doings, and help me to begin to see myself as you see me. Help me to remember true beauty is a love for You that shows, and help me to not put my identity in things of this world. Lord, we are so much more than what the world defines us as, and please help us be reminded of that. Pray for everyone suffering, or anyone in need and give them the strength and courage they need to be cured. Lord you are so amazing, and I place all my trust in you! Amen!
