The Power of Knowing

The Power of Knowing

Randomly as I was going about my morning routine and picking out what I was going to wear, a thought entered my head. I knew my sister was out of town and that if I wore her shoes she would never know, and in this way, she would not be affected ( Hey Liz :) ! ) . When I dug deeper into my self-inflicting guilt for not asking, I came to the realization that me wearing her shoes would only affect her if she somehow found out I wore them and didn’t ask. However, my choice to wear her shoes without telling her would affect me regardless, as I knew I was doing the wrong thing. While this seems like a pointless realization, it led me into a deeper study of the correlation to our own daily lives and our relationship with Jesus.

For example, people could be talking negatively about you at any second of the day. However, we tend to remain unaffected until we are either told they were talking bad about us or we experience it firsthand. It’s all in the ~knowing~ that we experience the pain of sorrow and rejection. Even still, speaking negative words about others oftentimes affects our own self more than it does the person on the other side.

I think this is what makes people believe a relationship with the Lord is so challenging. We oftentimes think that if we hide all of the bad things we do from the Lord rather than confessing our sins, they can remain hidden and we will not have to “pay the price”. When we keep all of our struggles inside, it will come to point we can no longer bear & we will feel broken. The Lord tells us he died for our sins & in this way has already “paid the price” because of his love for us. The Lord WANTS us to draw near, seek his presence, and ask for forgiveness. He is a safe place where we are free to run! In fact, he tells us in John 15:4, “Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me.”

Unless we abide in the Lord, we will not be able to reap a harvest. Within this lesson, I think it all comes down to this: while on this earth knowing certain things oftentimes instills pain to our lives, in heaven, the Lord longs for the ~knowing~ of our everyday transgressions so that he can make us new again! He wants us to tell him everything on our heart. He wants us to pray for a renewal of our minds and souls. He wants us to seek his presence with joy!

Psalm 103: 11-12 “For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us.”

Psalm 86:5 “For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.”

No matter the chapter of life you are in right now, I promise the Lord is longing for a connection & is writing a book greater than you can imagine!

Happy Monday! Let peace draw near to you this week!
