Control
Control. It’s a hard concept to grasp. in nearly every moment of our every day life, we are seeking to achieve control. Whether it be of the circumstances you face, someone’s behaviors, or even your own actions, there is always some sort of hope to have control in order to have what you desire. However, sadly enough, control is non-achievable, and therefore should not be something we so often long to have. I think going into the new year, especially, places the burden of controlling yourself whether it be through resolutions, yearly goals, or working towards “becoming the best version of you”. Control is inevitable. The search is going to happen. However, I think it becomes a new standard when you begin to lean on the Lord when faced with these long-lasting expectations of achieving perfection. While the new year is always an awesome time to start setting longterm goals, I think if we began to focus our eyes more on the Lord making us the best we can be, rather than ourselves, we would find much more success and fulfillment. We aren’t perfect. Human nature is thinking we are the makers of our own success. But this is where we are so wrong. Only THE LORD can fulfill us. Only THE LORD can set us free. Only THE LORD has our whole life mapped out. And this, should give us hope and satisfaction knowing that THE LORD is waiting on us and cheering us on in every aspect of life. This is where true control begins to be placed, and our self-controlling desire begins to dissolve. So, my goal, for you AND for me in this new season, is to focus not on controlling things set before us, but choosing to control the way we respond to them and handle the circumstances, particularly by giving it all to God and depending on the confidence he gives us, hope.
