The Thief Of Joy

The Thief Of Joy

I recently noticed how comparison is a common thing in our society today. We tend to look at others and compare our traits to theirs. Who has better hair? Who is prettier? Who has more friends? and I hate to admit it but maybe even: Who is a better Christian? We choose to give comparison power in our lives rather than turning it down. It is an evil thing that will slip up in your everyday life, and it is the devil's way of pulling you away from the Lord and going your own way. Comparison comes to steal, destroy, and isolate your relationship with God, leaving you feeling alone and worthless. When we recognize ourselves comparing ourselves to others, we can choose to turn to the Lord for guidance, instead of giving satan what he wants, for us to turn AWAY from the Lord rather than TO the lord. There is so much power in choosing to live OUR lives rather than looking at everyone else's. The most important thing to remember is that we don't have to prove anything to anyone! The one person we are living for is Jesus, and he loves us just the way we are. No matter what others think of you, God loves you because he knit each and every part of your body in your mother's womb, and he made you perfectly in his image! (Psalm 139:13) Once we begin to live for JESUS rather than the world, than we will finally be able to love people well, and stray away from comparison. "Throw your hair in a messy bun and go do some kingdom work," is one of my all time favorite quotes by Jordan Lee Dooley from SoulScripts! This verse is so awesome because it shows how we look is the least of what matters, and when we don't compare ourselves to others and live only for the purpose of praising Jesus, then we will be fulfilled! Do what really matters: put your phone away, hug more!, tell people how beautiful they are, and most importantly draw near to God. For comparison is the thief of joy, and in the midst of comparison, we must remember the truth that every single detail and part of us is beautiful, because it is MADE BY GOD!! So go out into the world: Love Jesus, Love others. God will do the rest.
